Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarships are open to international students for a Master’s degree at any reputable university, except universities in UK, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, Netherlands, Italy, Norway and Ireland.
The Aga Khan Foundation annually awards a limited number of postgraduate scholarships to outstanding students from selected developing countries who have no other funding for their studies, to develop effective scientists and leaders and prepare them for employment, primarily through AKDN. Scholarships are awarded on the thought of a 50% grant: 50% loan through a competitive application process once a year in June or July.

The Foundation gives priority to graduate applications, but is only willing to consider doctoral applications for outstanding students who are highly recommended for doctoral studies by their professors and who need a doctorate to pursue professional (academic or research) goals.
Applications for short-term courses aren’t considered; There also are no applications from students who have already started their studies.

Coverage of the scholarship

Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarships provide the recipient with the following benefits:
The Foundation only helps students with tuition fees and maintenance.
Doctoral programs are funded only for the first two years of study, after which students are expected to find alternative sources of help.

Financial assistance is provided according to the needs of the students.
Applicants are asked to make every effort to obtain funding also from other sources, so that the amount requested from the Foundation is reduced to a minimum.
Those who have managed to obtain funds from alternative sources are preferred.

Loan Terms

Half of the scholarship is treated as a loan that must be returned with an annual service fee of 5%. A surety is required to sign a loan agreement. The payback period is five years, starting six months after the study period financed by the Aga Khan Foundation.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarships, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

Required language: According to the requirements of the chosen institute.
Eligible countries: The Foundation accepts applications from citizens of the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar and Mozambique.

In France, Portugal, UK, USA and Canada, applications are accepted from people who come from one of the above-mentioned developing countries, are interested in development-related studies and have no other resources to finance their education.

Admission to a reputable university or study program.
Relationship of the field of study with the areas of interest of the AKDN.
Demonstration of thoughtful and coherent educational and professional plans,
Their extracurricular interests and achievements, the potential to achieve their goals and the likelihood of success in a foreign academic environment.

Candidates are expected to have several years of professional experience in their field of interest.
Students under the age of 30 are preferred.

You should be offered studies at the university of your choice.

Get an application form from the AKF or Aga Khan Education Services / Boards offices in the country where you currently live.
Send the completed application to the agency from which it was obtained. They should not be sent to Geneva.
