The General Motors Foundation which is one of the biggest companies in the USA funded one of the largest scholarship programs called The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program, with the huge sum of $25,000 in 2012 this was awarded to Carmen Gil.
As a first-generation college student working and attending full-time classes, the award would allow Carmen to continue her education in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) without worries. “It has really changed my life both financially and personally,” she said.
Filling in the Need for a Scholarship

“From the foundation’s perspective, our mission is to offer meaningful and influential programs in the education space,” said Karen Nicklin, head of the GM Foundation’s Education Initiatives. “We are confident that we support the next generation from birth to college.”
Although the GM Foundation had already invested in a number of educational initiatives, particularly in K-12 programming, the creation of a scholarship program focused on higher education would be a new job.

Recognizing the need to run a strong program, the GM Foundation called for help from the Scholarship Management Services, the American Scholarship Division.
Managing more than 1,300 programs for corporations, individuals, and foundations, Scholarship Management Services offered the foundation sought in the administration of an educational assistance program.
